Oversupply of solar modules is becoming an increasingly big issue in Europe. Prices of cells and modules continue to fall at a staggering rate in 2023 with cell prices at around half the price they were in February this year. This can cause significant issues for many manufactures and distributors who are seeing the value of stored panels decrease substantially during their time in storage. Manufacturers now have to decide to either scale back production or proceed with current supply and squeeze their margins to expand their market share. When I first started working in solar in 2010, module prices were $2/Watt which is unthinkable now! Over a 90% cost reduction in 13 years!
Of course, this is good news for those project developers, EPCs, installers and end users who can take advantage of these record-low prices. The European solar market has faced countless challenges over the years and Hyperion have continued to support some of the most innovative companies in the sector by hiring top talent. Next week myself and some of the Hyperion team will be attending Solar and Storage Live in Birmingham and I'm really looking forward to catching up with plenty of industry friends and contacts. If you'll be there and would like to grab a coffee, please get in touch.
