Glasto going Electric!

Love this piece around BESS replacing traditional diesel gen-sets at Glastonbury a couple of weeks ago (shout out to Multi Source Power /Ecotricity).

As an energy storage “nerd”, I'm fully sold on the benefits of batteries, as most of you reading this will be, but we know many in the mainstream aren't on board yet. Therefore, seeing batteries used so effectively in a British cultural institution like Glasto, will really help to put a spotlight on them.

It's important to note that this hasn't been a publicity stunt, the benefits are significant. It's great to read of the huge improvements when it comes to power quality and significant noise reduction. Surely your ears get enough damage from Shania Twain's off-key singing without needing soaring generator noise too!

This is also a great example of cleaner technologies successfully working together, with solar for power generation installed and further BESS examples from Allye /JLR with their MAX units being used for charging many of the EVs in operation on site (I met CEO Jonathan Carrier at Solar & Storage Live back in April, shortly after this JLR collaboration had been announced, so particularly great to see these rolled out!)

Batteries for these kind of use cases are not a flash in the pan. C&I energy storage is rapidly growing as I documented in a previous piece, and portable battery solutions can be perfect for remote location use cases like festivals, farms, mining, and construction sites.

Hyperion Executive Search supports Energy Storage technology companies and developers to recruit top talent in the UK, Europe, and N. America. We're excited by the growth of BESS in all segments, but in particular C&I as it's well documented how complex these emission-heavy sectors are to tackle. “The carbon reductions from using the BESS were massive but the biggest thing was just the quietness on site, outside of show hours. The ground team were really excited about having the BESS there as they are trying to be as eco-friendly as possible.”
