The current Covid-19 pandemic has had an impact on all our lives. This is a situation no one could ever have fully prepared for and no doubt many will be wondering, how can we ever get through this? And when we do, how will the economy ever pick up again?
Truth is, there’s lots of uncertainty, but what we do know is, it will end. Whether that’s in 6 weeks or 6 months, there WILL be an end.
But we need to act now. We need proactively start thinking about rebuilding the economy in not only the quickest but in the most sustainable and long-lasting way possible.
According to IRENA’s first Global Renewables Outlook released today, one way to do this is through investment in clean transport and clean energy.
The decarbonisation of systems, such as national and regional transport networks, will support short-term recovery and create resilient and inclusive economies. At the same time, advancing the renewables-based energy transformation provides an opportunity to meet international climate goals, boosting economic growth, creating millions of jobs and improving human welfare by 2050.
When we get through this, I don’t want to return to normality. Normal right now still includes investment into fossil fuels. Instead let’s see a complete shift in focus and investment into green energy and clean transportation solutions.<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]-->
