This is a very welcome boost for the UK's thriving EV market. An additional 3,600+ on-street charging points will certainly help drive the adoption of EVs by those without access to off-street parking, a significant proportion of the population. I firmly believe that a diverse mix of charging solutions is key to the swift transition to e-mobility. Charging your electric car has to be as convenient as filling up at a fuel station for many people to make the switch.
On-street charging plays a very important role, especially in cities. In the last year the Hyperion team have partnered with ubitricity, the leaders in on-street charging solutions, to build their new UK team. That's why we exist; to build teams for the most innovative cleantech companies, enabling the best businesses to find extraordinary people.
Accessibility to electric vehicles is being boosted as the UK Government has announced that there will be £10 million increase in funding available for on-street residential charge points to be installed. Announced today (Tuesday 21st January), the funding will be doubled to £10 million for the installation of charge points next year. It could fund up to 3,600 points across the country, and make charging an EV much easier for those without access to off-street parking.
