Last week I shared an article titled 'The end of petrol stations?', where I talked about a number of new charging points that I had spotted locally. I also shared my thoughts on the petrol station as we know it and IMO, how it is only a matter of time before it becomes a thing of the past.Despite lot's of positive attention for the post, I got a lot of stick from the lads who are still doubtful that the electric vehicle revolution will take off despite my constant reminder that it will and it is already happening. So, to that end, I am sure you can imagine my delight when I shared with them this mornings findings from Zap-Map, the UK's leading charging point platform who have released the below figures, indicating that for the first time, EV charging sites in the UK have outnumbered petrol stations! Here at Hyperion, we partner with a number of eMobility start-ups, many of which operate within the EV charging arena. Data from Zap-Map shows that as of 22 May, there are 8,471 charging locations across the UK, hosting a total of 13,613 charging devices. In contrast, as of the end of April, there are currently only 8,400 petrol stations in the UK, a figure which is continuing to decline.
