It's fantastic to see different technologies collaborating on innovative projects like this. I certainly think we will be seeing more projects where shorter duration lithium-ion batteries will combine with longer duration energy storage solutions such as flow batteries. These two technologies will support around 100 rapid EV chargers and hundreds of ground-source heat pumps as well as provide grid services and enable greater adoption of renewable energy generation. Pivot Power and redT are to collaborate on a grid-scale hybrid battery storage project which claims to be the world’s first to use a combination of lithium-ion and vanadium redox flow technologies. Pivot Power is to lead a consortium of companies which will develop a £41 million ‘SuperHub’ in Oxford, incorporating grid-scale batteries, high speed EV chargers and hundred of ground source heat pumps for local homes.
