The development of MW-sized solar parks are booming throughout the Netherlands with limited available space being left for further ground mounted systems. From this, a Dutch water company named Rijkswaterstaat are exploring more creative and innovative ways to install solar modules which would allow additional installations to take place. The Dutch solar energy association are working alongside the project to aid in the overall feasibility.

The solar road has been a concept for a little while now but no-one has really ran with the idea; Rijkswaterstaat who're undertaking the feasibility study are determining if solar roads are actually a viable option. They believe that if feasibility is attainable, we could see the idea being implemented within the next 5-10 years.

Primarily the research and development will be conducted using secondary roads due to major highways being unsuitable for this approach. Will the roads of the future have solar implementation?
