My first thought was wow, there will be some power needed at this site. 144 chargers, including 24 super fast (350kw) chargers. This though is the sort of innovation and investment that is needed to deliver the transition to an electrified transport that we all hope for, and are working towards.
At Hyperion we are working across Europe with manufacturers of EV Charging equipment and solutions to build the teams they need to deliver this massive increase in infrastructure.
Let's reinvent the 'service station', maybe along with better fuels (electicity) we can get better food options too!
That said, there appears to be far more to the idea than just EV charging. Here’s more on that (translated from a German website, FAZ): “However, the project has little in common with a conventional petrol station, and it is not for nothing under the name ‘Innovationspark’. Visitors should not only refuel, but also rest, eat, shop, and work. That is why Emler wants to offer a gastronomy and office space already in the first stage of construction. Loading and working, loading and shopping are the concepts.” That all sounds very interesting, but it should be realized here that apparently none of these plans are finalized — so the eventual end result may be fairly different from what is discussed above.
