Like with many other new innovations, SolarEdge have another first, this time integrating EV charging into their PV inverters. Surely others will follow quickly behind and offer smart charging directly from the PV array too. Also having the ability to fast charge with a boost from grid energy (or battery?) is a significant advantage. Having a fully integrated solution is great for the consumer, lowering the hardware costs and making operation more user friendly.
The company claims that it is the world’s first inverter-integrated EV charger, and offers charging that is up to six times faster than industry standard chargers. The Level 2 EV charger can be paired with SolarEdge’s HD-Wave inverter, which brings its existing solar PV production management and monitoring features to the EV space, thereby closing the circle of solar with EVs in a single step. The Level 2 EV charger can also deliver faster charging rates, SolarEdge says. Its patent-pending technology has a solar boost mode that can utilize both rooftop PV and grid energy to charge at 9.6 kW (40 Amp) charging. The charger can charge from the grid at 7.6 kW (32 Amp) if PV is not available.
