IRENA's recent report makes for very encouraging reading. Globally solar and wind energy jobs are massively on the increase, doubling over the last four years and the solar job creation in the USA is staggering, with over a quarter of a millions new solar jobs created in 2016! As the report says renewable energy job creation is far higher that national averages proving that the switch to renewable energy is not only better for the environment, but better for the global economy.
By sector, solar PV is the largest employer, boasting 3.1 million jobs globally, with IRENA’s director-general Adnan Z. Amin revealing that the solar and wind employment sectors have more than doubled over the past four years. In solar, the U.S., India and China lead the way for employment opportunities, with jobs in the U.S. increasing 17 times faster than the national average. In the past 12 months, the U.S. added 260,000 new solar jobs – a 24.5% increase.
