If anyone has ever read Tony Seba's books you will know he is not shy of a bold prediction, and that he articulates those projections well. Before writing this latest prediction of though as hyperbole, take a look at some of his previous predictions on the rise of solar. The reduced cost path and scaling of the solar industry have been far closer to Tony's predictions than many more 'sober' and probably expensively bought roadmaps from well known consulting houses and think tanks.
Although published in 2014, a lifetime ago in solar, it's well worth a read of his book 'Clean disruption of energy and transportation'.
One thing is for sure, we as a species need to do all we can to prove him right!
Will the emerging electric vehicle “transportation as a service” business model kill the global oil industry in 10 years? Tony Seba thinks it will. The Stanford economist released a landmark study Thursday about the revolutionary changes soon to be wrought by electrification of the transportation sector. “We are on the cusp of one of the fastest, deepest, most consequential disruptions of transportation in history,” the RethinkX think tank founder says in a press release. “But there is nothing magical about it. This is driven by the economics.”
