I think this will be the start of many more EV charging networks using electricity exclusively from renewable sources. EV owners by their very nature are environmentally conscious so will generally prefer to charge up their cars with renewable energy. If companies can collaborate to make it standard that EV charging networks utilise renewable energy then I think this will increase the deployment of EVs
London’s largest electric vehicle charging network Source London will only use renewably-sourced electricity in the future. Source London’s owner BluepointLondon has partnered with energy supplier SSE Energy, a move which will see its electricity supply come entirely from wind and hydro. "For the first time, EV users in London will have the guarantee that charging their car will not do more harm than good. We know Source London members have been waiting for this and we hope it will encourage more Londoners to switch to EVs and help us have a true impact on the air we breathe,” he said. Currently the only other electric vehicle charging network that pledges to only use renewable electricity is Ecotricity’s Electric Highway, with others powered using standard electricity supplies from a mix of generators.
