As we approach a sporting summer with the European Championships starting on June 10th , followed by Wimbledon starting on 27th June culminating with the RIO Olympics starting on Aug 5th. It is great to see the sustainability legacy in action, not only will RIO 2016 guarantee a carnival atmosphere but will be using bio diesel for transport, deliver a technology carbon mitigation plan mitigating 100% of the emissions generated by the games and in January this year was awarded ISO 20121 in support of this commitment. This follows on from London 2012 receiving its own Gold in Environmental and Sustainability category of the International Sports Management Awards. This legacy is set to continue as the sustainability baton is handed over to Tokyo 2020 which is already being badged as the Greenest Games of all time with their Olympic stadium being solar powered and having rainwater harvesting.
The fact that the Olympic stadium will be solar powered and have a rainwater retention system are great examples of how you are incorporating sustainability into the games.
