Encouraging reading for the growth of renewable energy in the UK. This BEIS report shows that renewable energy accounted for 29.3% of all electricity generated in 2017. Wind and more specifically onshore wind is the dominant force here despite a complete lack of support from the Government in recent years. Offshore wind is growing rapidly so it will be interesting to see when this will overtake onshore wind in electricity generation.

It's great to see the fast decline of coal, falling over 70% from 2015 levels. However gas does still dominate so there is a significant way to go before renewable energy is in the majority. Onshore wind and solar have huge public support and massive potential for fast and cheap deployment. With solar deployment at an 8 year low, it is vital for the Government to tackle these key areas to drive the development of solar and onshore wind.

There's also space for new renewable energy technologies. Hyperion are currently working with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority to recruit a Project Director for the Mersey Tidal programme. If you are interested in hearing more about this, please get in touch.
