There are a number of interesting factors in this project. Firstly the size. 350MW! Over four times the size of the current largest project in the UK. This is a serious infrastructure project so will have a lot of hoops to jump through before construction can start. It's great to see projects of this scale in discussion in a subsidy free environment. Another interesting point is that they plan to contruct the project with an East-West orientation which is pretty rare for solar farms but would enable more consistant generation throughout the day which eases the pressure on the grid network.

Energy storage will also play a key role in this project providing grid services. There are no details on the proposed size of the battery but storage is increasingly becoming a key element in upcoming solar projects. It seems we are entering a new realm of project magnitude, enabling solar to play an increasingly significant part in our energy mix.
