As many of us wait for tomorrows outcome of the National Grid EFR tender we can view 'speed' as being a very apt word. EFR’s deliverables are essentially the speed in which the offered hardware/software solutions can meet the service obligations requested by National Grid. However speed of deployment of the initial tranche of 200MW is potentially more important to the wider large scale energy storage industry... If the successful bidders can prove they can deliver on time (and quicker if possible as large scale solar PV has) then the UK government will have on the ground evidence that the industry can hit similar timescales to that of solar and wind. We can then only imagine where energy generation policy will likely go in the future...
