It's now common to hear discussion about the disruptive influences that large commercial/industrial and grid level storage is having on carbon intensive energy producers and on the increased penetration of renewables. We must also not discount the effect it will have on the datacentre/telco industry... These industries have traditionally seen battery storage (primarily lead acid) as a necessary evil to ensure customer uptime. With organisations such as Microsoft investigating new types of storage tech that has high cyclic capability there is real potential for a changed perspective of storage's intrinsic value... It may be the case that in the future a 20MW datacentre could earn a good part of its revenue from providing grid services alone...
